Rowing NZ Kiwi Pair Crowned World Champions in 2XU!
A huge congratulations to Rowing NZ's power duo Eric Murray & Hamish Bond (aka 'The Kiwi Pair') on being crowned World Champions at the Olympic qualifying World Rowing Championship regatta at Bled, Slovenia on Saturday! Thanks to 2XU's Official Apparel partnership with Rowing New Zealand, Eric and Hamish trained, raced and recovered in 2XU engineered apparel (yep, the suits were ours too)!
Here's a fantastic race report we received from the duo this morning -
There is not many word to describe it, but “You Beauty” springs to mind! After another World Champs, we have come away as victors and in doing so set the 2nd fastest time EVER in conditions thought impossible to do so.
Today was always set to be a ‘dog fight’ with the media hype between NZ and GB and it has always baffled but imposed on us in our preparation to the final of the event. We always read about how we are going to get beaten and how our opposition is far superior to anyone else. It is something that both hits a nerve with us, but also spurs us on to reach our potential.
In the final, we knew that the only tactical way to attack it was to go out hard, and win it early in the race. We did exactly that and went out HARD and FAST and tried to sustain a pace that we knew would be impossible for anyone else to sustain. We managed to get a jump of the field in the 1st 500m and then really put the accelerator on in the 2nd 500m of the race.
We never let the foot of the pedal and held a really fast speed through the 3rd 500m into the home stretch. With 500m to go, we sat pretty comfortably and waited until the Brit’s started to attack us, before we countered their move and hit our top speed before the line.
We crossed and became World Champions for the 4th time, and 3rd consecutive time in the pair. It is such a great feeling to have all our hard work and effort from the entire season, put into practice, and the rewards come from it.
Fantastic work guys - from all at Team 2XU, a huge well done and enjoy your little break before the final pre-London drive ahead!
